Brasil presidirá Conselho de Segurança da ONU

O Brasil assumirá a presidência rotativa do Conselho de Segurança das Nações Unidas em fevereiro de 2011. O órgão é dirigido a cada mês por um de seus 15 países membros. Durante o período, o Brasil ficará encarregado também de presidir todos os trabalhos do Conselho, além de convocar qualquer sessão extraordinária.

A embaixadora brasileira junto às Nações Unidas, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, afirmou que “haverá uma renovação do mandato da operação de paz no Timor Leste, que é um assunto muito importante para o Brasil e países de Língua Portuguesa”.

Maria Luiza espera contar com a presença de autoridades do alto escalão do governo timorense e aproveitar para discutir um pouco mais a situação no país e os próximos passos a serem tomados.

Brazil will preside over the United Nations Security Council

Brazil will take over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council in February 2011. The organisation is presided each month on a rotational basis by one of the 15 country-members. During that period, Brazil will also be responsible to be leading all the Security Council’s workload as well as calling out for any extraordinary session.

The Brazilian Ambassador for the United Nations, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, said “the renewal of the peace operation in East Timor is part of the agenda and a subject of the utmost importance for Brazil and other Portuguese speaking countries”.

Viotti hopes to count with the presence of East Timor high ranking authorities, who will discuss the country’s situation and decide the next steps to be taken.
