Citada pelo jornal britânico The Times como uma das mulheres mais poderosas do mundo, Dilma Rousseff, 62, estará a frente de um país que é membro influente do BRIC (Brasil, Rússia, India e China) e conquistou notoriedade internacional pela sua posição de destaque no clube exclusivo do G-20.
A atual economia exuberante do Brasil conseguiu se contrastar completamente em relação às europeias e americana, que ainda sofrem os efeitos dramáticos da recessão mundial. Tais contrastes, para alguns especialistas, significam mudanças fundamentais na economia global, que começa a se voltar para a América Latina, anunciando o futuro da ordem mundial.
Esta série de workshops foi programada para acompanhar a atual conjuntura política do Brasil após as eleições presidenciais. O workshop de hoje discutirá como o Brasil chegou a conquistar a sua atual posição no panorama econômico mundial, bem como onde o país quer chegar e quais as perspectivas para o futuro.
Outros temas incluem a história da ascensão do Brasil, Comércio Internacional – O Papel do Brasil como exportador e na Organização Mundial de Comércio e Mercado Financeiro Global – Brasil no G-20 e as reformas financeiras.
A mesa-redonda será formada por ilustres professores e especialistas no estudo das economias latino-americanas, como Leslie Bethell (Fundação Getulio Vargas), Andrew Hurrell (Universidade de Oxford), Anthony Pereira (King’s College Londres), James Dunkerley (Universidade Queen Mary, Londres) e Timothy Power (Universidade de Oxford).

Brazil Post-Elections will take centre stage in series of workshops in London
Referred by the British daily newspaper “The Times” as one of the most powerful women in the world, Dilma Rousseff, 62, will be leading a country, which has an influential role in the group BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and has conquered a determining position within the exclusive club G-20.
The current buoyant Brazilian economy has highlighted the stark contrast with the American and European economies, which are still suffering the dramatic effects of the global recession.
Such contrasts, for some specialists, might mean fundamental shifts in the global economy, which begins to turn towards the “Global South”; announcing the future of the world order.
This series of one-day workshops is timed to follow the crucial political scenario for Brazil after the presidential elections. It will discuss how Brazil managed to get where it is today, where Brazil wants to get and which are the perspectives for its future. Other themes will include the history of Rising Brazil, International Trade – Brazil as an exporter and its role in the World Trade Organization and Global Finance – Brazil in the G-20 and the financial reforms.
The roundtable discussion will have great names in the academic world and specialists in the study of Latino-American economies such as Leslie Bethell (Fundacao Getulio Vargas, Rio), Andrew Hurrell (Oxford University), Anthony Pereira (King’s College London), James Dunkerley (Queen Mary University), Timothy Power (Oxford University), Makrukh Doctor (Hull and Johns Hopkins University) and Michael Reid (The Economist).
